Hello fellow Liberty Chaser,
In case you don’t know me, my name is Jeff Charles. I am a political commentator, writer, and podcaster.
I am a contributor for RedState, Liberty Nation, and Newsweek Opinion. I host my podcast called “A Fresh Perspective.”
I also write political satire on The Smattering.
I am an anarchist, but sometimes identify as a libertarian to prevent new folks from thinking I’m a nutjob who wants to turn the United States into a real-life version of The Purge movies.
Up until this point, I have been using my platform and content to affect a more libertarian-leaning shift in the Republican Party, although I was never a card-carrying member of the GOP. In fact, I was never under the illusion that the party overall wishes to roll back the state or even shrink the size of government. Members of th establishment old guard has shown time and time again that they are only concerned with preserving the status quo — and their own power.
But over the past few years, I have been a libertarian at heart. While I have conservative values, my beliefs have always lined up more with liberty than conservatism.
After the last midterm elections, I’d had it with the Republican Party. After I went into the booth and found myself voting for more Libertarian candidates than GOP, I knew I was done.
It was around this time that I had a political dark night of the soul — I was not sure where I should go. I’d considered the Libertarian Party in the past, but it was too much of a joke to be taken seriously.
But I also knew that when the Mises Caucus took the party over, there would be more of a chance that it would actually start trying to win races and further its influence. I decided I would give the liberty movement a shot — even if I didn’t join up with the party.
In December, I partnered with my friend Doni Anthony to start doing “Liberty Spaces” on Twitter. We have been using the Twitter Spaces platform to discuss issues from a liberty-focused perspective. Since then, leaders within the Libertarian Party and Mises Caucus have reached out to us and we have already had some productive conversations centered on what we can do to help advance the cause of liberty.
After the Mises Caucus published details about the Decentralized Revolution campaign it is launching, Doni and I knew we were in the right place. We plan to be busy in 2023, helping to advance the liberty agenda by helping the Mises Caucus focus primarily on local races where they have more of a chance of picking up seats as they did in 2022.
I am currently writing an ebook titled “Chasing Liberty: A Journey from Partisan Politics to the Fight for Freedom,” in which I detail my story getting to this point and also lay out the case for disaffected Republicans who might be concerned about throwing their vote away if they do not vote for a GOP candidate.
You can pre-order the ebook, which will be published on Feb. 25, by signing up for an annual paid subscription for only $50 per year. This also gets you premium content that I will be putting behind the paywall.
I will be using this Substack to write about my thoughts on the liberty movement and the effort to affect positive change at the local and grassroots level. I’ll also chime in on the issues of the day from a liberty-focused perspective. I’m looking forward to interacting with all of you and would appreciate your feedback. Let us have fun chasing liberty together!
