PROTEST: San Antonio Is Using Eminent Domain to Steal a Man's Business
Come join us as we protest against the government's overreach!
Hello Liberty Chasers,
I was recently informed of a wicked scheme that the city of San Antonio, in conjunction with the Texas state government, is inflicting on one of its residents.
The San Antonio City Council is colluding with the state government to strong arm the owner of a bar to sell his business and property at a insultingly low price using the threat of eminent domain. This is happening because the entity that administers the Alamo wishes to expand and create a musem on the premises.
To accomplish this, the Texas General Land Office (GLO) would need the land on which Moses Rose’s, the bar in question, sits. The establishment has been owned by a San Antonio resident named Vince Cantu for decades. He has indicated that he is willing to sell, but the city is not willing to pay his price and has been pressuring him to lower it considerably.
This is when Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham got involed. She told the San Antonio City Council to begin eminent domain proceedings to seize Mr. Cantu's bar and property, which its members voted to do late last month.
If Cantu does not agree to the government's offer, they will forcibly steal his business/livelihood, giving him a pittance. As it stands currently, he has until the 21st of March to come to an agreement before they will finalize the eminent domain claim, condemn his property, and take his business.
This is nothing more than a government-sponsored shakedown operation, a brazen effort to use the power of the state to coerce Cantu into taking their lowball offer for his business.
We the people should not allow this type of tyranny without a fight.
On March 11, opponents of this action will be holding a PEACEFUL protest to demonstrate against this evil action on the part of San Antonio and the state of Texas. I will be speaking at the demonstration, along with other speakers.
If you live in Texas, your support would be very much appreciated -- we need to let these people know that they won't get away with this blatant abuse of power. Please register here.
