Fighting Against the Tyranny of Eminent Domain in San Antonio
What do you do when the government wants to steal your livelihood?
In San Antonio, Texas, I had the honor of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with other liberty chasers as we protested against the state and city employing eminent domain to forcibly seize a man’s livelihood. Only five minutes away from the same area where Americans fought, bled, and died to defend the Alamo against the aggression of the Mexican government, we were standing against the machinations of a tyrannical government trying to steal a family’s property to earn more tax revenue.
I wrote about the whole story in a piece at RedState in case you haven’t already heard about the situation. To make a long story short, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, a Republican, reached out to the city of San Antonio requesting that it use eminent domain to seize Moses Rose’s Bar, owned by Vince Cantu and situated near the Alamo.
Why?
Because the state wishes to do renovations to the Alamo and build a musem and gift shop using the land on which Cantu’s bar sits. They were not willing to go through negotiations with him — they led with the prospect of using the force of the government to compel Cantu to give up his business.
This is why over one hundred Texans showed up at Travis Park to make our opinions on the matter known.
I spoke alongside a plethora of fiery and gifted speakers who excoriated the state and city government for using thuggish tactics to pry Cantu’s livelihood from his fingers. I had the honor of meeting Vince’s wife and daughter, who were grateful to have us all there fighting for their family.
Here’s my speech:

Doni Anthony, who runs the “Liberty or Else” Substack, also spoke — and as usual, she did not mince words.

Let me know what y’all think! I will let you know when I have updates about Vince’s situation.
My first book “Chasing Liberty: A Journey from Partisan Politics to the Fight for Freedom” will be published soon!
In the book, I tell my story of how I came to the liberty movement and how others who are disaffected with the Republican and Democratic parties can begin promoting liberty at the local level.
